Friends of ours asked if I would photograph their family. I have never thought of myself as a photographer.
I have been enjoying the hobby of photography for a long time. I take my camera with me almost every where I go. Don't all bloggers do that?
Still, I wouldn't call myself a photographer.
I tried to move away from the compliment. I said that I was just an amateur picture taker, certainly not a photographer.
Friends don't allow you to do that to yourself. I was corrected. I was their photographer, and they were grateful for that.
Why do we shut down the compliments, attention, or success? We shut down a piece of ourselves when we do.
We shut down the vulnerability that admits we are not perfect, but we are worthy.
We shut down access to our true feelings.
It is also possible that we quench the opportunity for growth.
We are women, mothers, wives, sisters, friends, cooks, story tellers, business owners, bankers, crafters, helpers, part time workers, bookkeepers, bloggers.............
Can we stop shutting ourselves down? Has someone ever liked 'your work'? How did you respond?
