Sharing my blog with The Fiddler today.
If you’re like me, there are days where you feel like everything is falling apart in your life. Sure, I know that practically speaking, that’s not what’s really happening, but it sure feels like it.
And when those days come, your soul (mind, will, and emotions) and your spirit take a hit. King Solomon said in the book of Proverbs, “a broken heart crushes the spirit.”
Isn’t that the truth!
The other day, I was reading and came across something that reminded me of a truth I forget way too often.
Jeremiah had to deal with quite a bit of circumstances that rocked his world. He, in fact, wrote a whole book about them and called the book Lamentations (what a sad title!).
In the middle of this book, Jeremiah says this, “I remember my affliction and my wandering….I well remember them, and my soul is downcast within me. Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope: Because of the Lord’s great love, we are not finished, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness. I say to myself, ‘The Lord is my portion.’”
Here’s the truth: there comes a time, where in the midst of sadness, the responsibility falls on us to be proactive and recall God’s faithfulness.
No matter how dark the situation seems,
God’s faithfulness is bigger.
No matter how frustrating the situation is,
God’s faithfulness is stronger.
No matter how demoralizing the trial gets,
God’s faithfulness is more absolute.
So, next time you feel like everything is falling apart: stop and call to mind God’s faithfulness. Say to yourself, “The Lord is my portion.”
And when you do that, like Jeremiah, you’ll have hope.
